The Arts

Music, Dance, Drama, Media, and Visual Arts programs are all provided throughout the year for one hour each a week. All students are involved in every facet of the Arts program.

Branxholme Wallacedale Community School has a well-equipped music department with high quality instruments that we have been purchased and donated over many years. Our instruments include marimbas, a large African xylophone, recorders, ukuleles and many more.

Emphasis is placed upon participation and commitment to daily practice, group ensembles, casual performances, and special events such as participation in the Hamilton Eisteddfod and our annual presentation night. We see music as a craft refined over years and supported by peers, school, and families. It is not about perfection, rather about a genuine engagement and desire to express ourselves. We are fortunate to have all students participating.

Branxholme-Wallacedale Community School has a long culture of excellence in the performing arts. We have won many awards competing against much larger schools and we have been extraordinarily successful. Children have performed as a whole school, in small groups and individually. The student’s learning is showcased each year at the Hamilton Eisteddfod and at school performances.

Our Visual Arts program endeavours to develop student’s creativity in a range of areas including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles. We communicate to audiences through the annual exhibition of our work.

We explore personal ideas through using various stimuli to excite the imagination and observe and interpret the things around us as we experience the world. Themes and concepts are expressed while creating our artwork. Our knowledge and understanding of the Art Elements increases while we explore a broad range of media, materials, and techniques.
